Holy Redeemer takes the Boys District 2 3A Championship
Zach Perta did something he never did during a game or successfully achieved in practice. He dunked the basketball as the Royals pulled away from the Spartans. In one of the biggest games of the season, Perta came up big in the fourth quarter. He scored nine of his 19 points in the fourth as Holy Redeemer defeated Mid Valley 51-40. "It was unbelievable to get that dunk, our whole team was energized by that." Holy Redeemer head coach Paul Guido said. Perta on his dunk in the District Chmpionship game. "It was the confidence, everyone had me hyped. I was like I had to go up and go for it. Do whatever it takes to get the crowd going."
The game was scoreless with over four and a half minutes til Richard Vinansky hit a free throw. It ended being a back and forth with Holy Redeemer having a 4-3 lead. Mid Valley went on a 7-0 run to make it 10-4 and led 12-6 at the end of the first quarter.
Jakob Lesher scored the first basket of the second quarter to make it 14-6. Zach Perta then scored six straight points with a three pointer and a three point play. Jacob Hunter then tied the game up with a pair of free throws. Danny Nemitz hit a three point play to make it 17-14 Spartans to take back the lead. Mason O'Malley then hit a basket to make it a five point lead. After Mid Valley and Holy Redeemer traded a pair of free throws. Hunter scored a basket to cut it to three. After an O'Malley free throw. Darryl Wright hit a three pointer to cut the deficit to one and only trailed 22-21 at halftime.
Little more than a minute in, Wright tied the game up on a free throw. After the Spartans took back the lead, Hunter scored a three point play to make it 25-24 then scored another basket to make it 27-24. Demaja Dunston hit a pair of free throws then Nemitz hit a basket to take a 28-27 lead. Louis Lussi hit a three pointer to make it 30-28. Dunston gave Mid Valley the lead on a three point play. Perta then scored four straight points to make it 34-31 at the end of the third quarter.
Vivansky scored a basket to start the fourth and the Spartans had chances to tie or take the lead but missed their opportunities with missed free throws. Wright then scored a basket to make it a three point lead. Perta hit a pair of free throws with 2:51 remaining in the fourth to make it 48-43. The Royals pulled away in the fourth to win the District 2 Boys 3A Championship with a 51-40 victory over Mid Valley. Danny Nemitz scored a team-high 16 points and Rich Vivansky added 7 for the Spartans.

Senior guard Darryl Wright on winning the Championship. "It feels good. Not many expected us to get here. We just had to work hard to get here." Jacob Hunter on winning the title despite losing some key pieces from last season's team. "Since that buzzer went off last year, alot of other people had other teams. Not alot of people thought we could get here."
