The Carolina Panthers came to Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday afternoon to take on the Philadelphia Eagles. The Panthers are coming off a loss to the Redskins. The Eagles are coming off a victory over the Giants. Who would come on top in this matchup of NFC opponents? Let's find out!
The Eagles would start with the ball and would go three and out. The Panthers' first possession would end with a punt. The Eagles would go on a long 15 play drive that would end with a missed 36 yard field goal by Jake Elliott. The Panthers next possession would end in another punt. The Eagles would go on a seven play drive as we head to the second quarter and would result with Carson Wentz going to Alshon Jeffrey for an 11 yard touchdown and a 7-0 Eagles lead. The Panthers would go three and out on the possession after the touchdown. The Eagles would go on a six play drive ending with a 46 yard field goal by Elliott for a 10-0 Eagles lead and would lead by that at halftime.
The Panthers would get the ball to start the second half and would get to the Eagles 26 yard line but an intentional grounding penalty by the Panthers would result in a punt. The Eagles would get the ball at their own six yard line and would go on a long 17 play drive that would end with Wentz going to Dallas Goedert for a one yard touchdown. The Panthers would go on an 11 play drive that would end with Curtis Samuel for a 14 yard touchdown run to put Carolina on the board. The PAT would be missed as the Eagles would lead 17-6 with 10:48 remaining in the fourth quarter. The next Eagles possession would end with a punt. The Panthers would start at their own 13 yard line. On second and 6, Cam Newton would find Torrey Smith for 14 yards. On a second and 2, Newton would find Demiere Byrd for eight yards. On the next play, Newton would Jarious Wright for a 28 yard catch to the Eagles 25 yard line. On second and 3, Newton would find Devin Funchess for a 18 yard touchdown and Newton would find Jarius Wright for the two point conversion to cut the Eagles lead to 17-14 with 4:13 remaining in the game. The Eagles would go three and out that would use up 1:51 on the clock. The Panthers would take over with 2:17 to go at their own 31 yard line. Carolina would face a fourth and 10 with 2:06 to go and Newton would find Smith for 35 yards to the Eagles 34 yard line. Carolina would face a third and 2 and Newton would go to Christian McCaffrey for a 22 yard gain to the Eagles four yard line. The Panthers would face a third and goal at the one yard line and Newton would find Greg Olsen for a one yard touchdown and they would make the PAT for the 21-17 Panthers lead. The Eagles would take the ball at their own 30 with 1:17 to go. On the first play, Wentz would go to Alshon Jeffrey and Jeffrey would be interfered with and Philadelphia would take over at the Panthers 22 yard line. After a Wendell Smallwood eight yard run, Wentz's pass was ruled an interception by Eric Reid on the field but after further review, the ball hit the ground and the Eagles would get the ball back but on third and 2, Wentz would get sacked by Julius Peppers and a fumble recovered by the Panthers' K Love as the Panthers would take the 21-17 comeback victory with 21 straight points in the fourth quarter.
