Comets take Division 1 title with win over Wilkes-Barre Area

The Crestwood Comets and Wilkes-Barre Area Wolfpack traveled to Pittston Area High School on Thursday to determine the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 Champion. The Comets and Wolfpack split the season series with each team winning on the road. The Wolfpack defeated Pittston Area on Monday to get to the Finals. The Comets beat Dallas on Monday as well. The winner will play Wyoming Seminary on Saturday night for the overall Wyoming Valley Conference Champion.
 The Wolfpack would get the first basket of the game, but the Comets would go on a 7-0 run on baskets by Jake Zaleski and Marcus Vieney, alongside a three pointer by Ryan Petrosky. After a Blake Masker basket and a free throw by Brandon Hall to cut it to two. The Comets would increase the lead to six with baskets by Petrosky and Brad Papura. Saquan Portee would cut the lead to 15-11 just before the buzzer to end the first. The Wolfpack would cut the lead to two early in the second quarter but the Comets would go on a 12-2 run to end the first half and lead 29-17. The Comets would cruise in the second half and take the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 title with a 52-31 victory over Wilkes-Barre Area. Crestwood will play Wyoming Seminary on Saturday night for the overall Wyoming Valley Conference Championship. Wilkes-Barre Area will play in the District 2 6A Playoffs next week.

Thoughts on the game: The Comets pulled away during the second quarter and didn't look back after that. Ryan Petrosky was excellent, he scored 18 points to lead all scorers. Mike Zaleski added 12 points off the bench for Crestwood. For Wilkes-Barre Area, Brandon Hall led the team with 15 points and Blake Masker and Cole Walker each added six for the Wolfpack.
