2020 District 2 Basketball Championships Day 3

10 teams would go for 5 District Titles at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza on Saturday. We had 3A Girls featuring Dunmore and Holy Redeemer. 2A Boys between Holy Cross and Mountain View. 4A Boys with Valley View and Scranton Prep. 5A Girls with West Scranton and Abington Heights and 6A Boys with Scranton taking on Wilkes-Barre Area. Dunmore would take the 3A Girls District Title with a convincing 52-24 victory over Holy Redeemer. Dunmore freshman Ciera Toomey scored a game high 17 points and Moriah Murray added 12. Aubrey Curley had six for the Royals and Karissa Spade had five. Dunmore and Holy Redeemer will advance to the State Tournament. Holy Cross would win their fourth straight District 2 Championship with a 47-19 victory over Mountain View. Leahy O'Connor had 14 points and Patrick Bennie added 12. For Mountain View, Michael Fanelli had a team high 11 points. Both Holy Cross and Mountain View advance to the 2A State Tournament. Scranton Prep would take the Boys 4A title with a 58-52 victory over Valley View. Gavin Bednarz had a game high 19 points and Rhys Merritt added 13 points. For Valley View, Zack Kovalchik had 18 points and Connor Kelley added 16. Both Valley View and Scranton advance to the 4A State Tournament with Nanticoke. West Scranton would pull off a big upset and take the 5A Girls Championship with a 37-33 victory over Abington Heights. Nya Jonson and Cassandra Moraca each had nine points in the victory. West Scranton and Abington Heights advance to the 5A Girls State Tournament. In their first year as a program, Wilkes-Barre Area would take their first District Championship with a 62-45 victory over Scranton. Blake Masker had 19 points and Brandon Hall added 10 points. For Scranton, Jason Shields had a game high 21 points and John Rose added nine.
