2020 District 2 Basketball Championships Day 2
Six teams would play for a District Championship on Friday at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. The 2A Girls would feature Old Forge and Holy Cross, 6A Girls would have Williamsport play Hazleton Area. To cap off the night, we have the 5A Boys featuring Dallas and Wallenpaupack. Old Forge would take the District 2 2A Title with a 55-33 victory over Holy Cross. Olivia Ciullo would have a team high 15 points and Maria Garcia would add 13 points. For Holy Cross, Kaci Kranson would have a game high 18 points. Both teams advance to States next week. Hazleton Area would take the District 2 6A Title with a 58-34 victory over Williamsport. The Lady Cougars would have four players scoring in double digits. Brooke Boretski (12), Faith Grula (11), Marissa Trivelpiece (11), Olivia Wolk (11). For the Millionaires, Kailee Helmrich would have a team high 10 points and Samiyah Little added seven. Hazleton Area moves on to the Girls 6A State Tournament. Wallenpaupack would take the District 2 5A Boys Championship with a 33-32 victory. The Buckhorns were paced by Jack Smith who had 14 points. He would hit a three point shot to give Wallenpaupack the lead with 1:01 left. Elijah Rosenthal would add 11 points in the victory. For Dallas, Jack Farrell had a team high 14 points and Dylan Schuster added nine.
