Butczynski propels Nanticoke to upset win over Tunkhannock

The Nanticoke Area Trojans and Tunkhannock Tigers came to Wyoming Area High School on Wednesday night for the District 2 4A Quarterfinals. The Trojans and Tigers played each other in December with the Tigers taking the victory in Nanticoke. Tunkhannock comes in as the number three seed in the District Tournament and Nanticoke comes in as the six seed.
With the game tied at 4, Colby Butczynski would hit a three point play and get a steal and basket for a 9-4 Nanticoke advantage. However, the Tigers would cut the lead to one with four free throws by Jack Chilson. Jake Krupinski would increase the lead with a basket just before the buzzer as the Trojans would lead 11-8 after one. The Tigers would take the lead with baskets by Ben Chilson and Jaren Robinson. After the Trojans and Tigers traded baskets for the lead, Butczynski would hit back to back threes to make it 19-14 as we headed to halftime.
The Tigers would cut the lead to two with a Jake Frisco three pointer but Butczynski would continue his hot first half with five straight points for a 24-17 Nanticoke lead. Nanticoke would build the lead up to 11 and would lead 31-22 at the end of the third. The Trojans would get a basket by Butczynski to increase the lead to 11 but the Tigers would go on an 8-0 run to cut the lead to three. However, that would be as far the Tigers would get as Nanticoke would sink their free throws as the sixth seeded Trojans would upset the third seeded Tunkhannock Tigers 46-38. The Trojans play Valley View on Saturday.

Thoughts on the game: It was an impressive night by Colby Butczynski. He had a game high 24 points. Jake Krupinski added 10 for the Trojans. For the Tigers, Jack Chilson had a good game with 15 points. Jake Frisco added 10 points. I will say that Tunkhannock surprised quite a bit of people this year, myself included. They return several key players next year in Jack and Ben Chilson, as well as Ryan Harder.

Thoughts on the game: It was a pretty crazy game to say the least. In the first quarter, it looked like Crestwood had all the momentum in racing to an 11-5 lead and looked good midway through the second quarter, leading by 10.
