The Mid Valley Spartans and Lakeland Chiefs would go to PNC Field for the District 2 3A Championship game. Both teams have already qualified for states as District 2 gets two teams in the 3A State Playoffs. Lakeland is looking to win a District Title after coming up short last season. Mid Valley is looking for their first win over Lakeland this season and hoped that the third time was the charm for the Spartans. Mid Valley started Anthony Colvin on the mound. Lakeland went to ace Jake Hodorovich.
Craig Mercanti would hit a one out single then Mario Bonacci would draw a walk but a flyout and a strikeout would end the top of the first. Nico Piraino would lead off with a walk then Shane Novitsky would single but Colvin would retire the next three to keep it scoreless after 1. Jordany Cardenas hit a one out single but a popout and a strikeout would end the Mid Valley threat. Colvin would throw a 1-2-3 second for the Spartans. Hodorovich would throw a 1-2-3 top of the third for the Chiefs. Colvin would throw a second straight 1-2-3 inning for Mid Valley. Justin Gohsler and Julian Hanicak each got hit by a pitch with one out and Cardenas would move them over to second and third on a sacrifice bunt. Frankie Kocsis would reach on an error that would score Gohsler for a 1-0 Spartans lead. Giovanni Lopez would then single home Hanicak for a 2-0 lead. JJ Glinsky would then draw a walk but a fielder's choice would end the top of the fourth. Adam Retzbach would hit a single then go to second on an errant pickoff. Dom Verrastro would reach on an error. Jake Bulkeley would bring home Retzbach on an RBI groundout to cut the Mid Valley lead to 2-1. Gohsler would come in to pitch and would get a strikeout to end the fourth. Brendan Kucharski would hit a single and would be lifted for a pinch runner in Nick Ferretti. Gohsler would draw a walk then Hanicak drew another walk to load the bases. Dom Verrastro Cardenas would hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Ferretti for a 3-1 Spartans lead. A strikeout would end the inning. Jerry Borosky would hit a one out single then Piraino would double to score Borosky to cut the lead to 3-2. Novitsky would single to move Piraino to third. Matt Hayes would single to score Piraino to tie the game at 3. A strikeout and a fielder's choice would end the fifth. Verrastro would throw a 1-2-3 sixth for the Chiefs. Jake Bulkeley would draw a walk then advance to second on a wild pitch but tried to go to third when the ball was thrown into the outfield and they would throw him out for the first out of the sixth. Nick Bertholf would draw a walk. Mark Longo would come in to pitch for Mid Valley. He would get two groundouts to end the sixth. Bonnacci would hit a single then Kucharski would draw a walk. Longo would try to move them over with a bunt but Lakeland would throw to third for the first out. The Chiefs would get a 6-4-3 double play would end the top of the seventh. Piraino would get hit by a pitch but initially, it was called a ball as it looked like he didn't make an attempt to get out of the way. However, the umpires would discuss and would award him first base. Novitsky would then single to get Piraino to second. After a popout, Adam Retzbach would hit a single to load the bases. Verrastro would hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Piraino as the Chiefs would beat Mid Valley 4-3 to win the District 2 3A Championship.
