Crestwood advances to semis with win over Coughlin

The Crestwood Comets traveled to Hilldale Park as they took on the Coughlin Crusaders. Despite it being Coughlin's home field, Crestwood would serve as the home team for this game. The Comets are coming in as the two seed after clinching the WVC Division 1 title. Coughlin is hoping to pull off an upset for their first win of the season. TJ Wozniak got the start for the Crusaders. The Comets went to Brad Papura.
Wozniak would hit a two out single then Tony Egidio would follow with a single but a strikeout would end the top of the first. Colin Macko would hit a one out double then advance to third on an errant pickoff. Justin Darden would bring him in with an RBI groundout for a 1-0 Crestwood lead. A popout would end the inning. Joshua Rhodes would lead off with a single then his courtesy runner Josh Wychock would go to second then Dylan Bronack would hit a double to score Wychock to tie the game at 1. Smith would strikeout but would reach after the ball was dropped and Bronack would move to third. Pedro Betancourt would then hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Bronack to give Coughlin a 2-1 lead. A groundout and a strikeout would end the top of the second. Mike Palmiero would lead off with a double then Wyatt Kindler would follow with a double to score Palmiero to tie the game at 2. After a pickoff, Evan Knapp and Caden Rozitski would each hit singles then Matt Taleroski would hit a double to score Knapp for a 3-2 lead. Brett Caladie would then break it open with a single that scored Rozitski's courtesy runner, Corey Chalk and Taleroski for a 5-2 lead. The Comets would score seven runs to lead 8-2 after 2 innings. Papura would go 1-2-3 in the third and the Comets would score nine runs in the third for a 17-2 victory over Coughlin to advance to play Valley West on Wednesday.

Thoughts on the game: Crestwood dominated for most of the game and is now onward to a matchup with Valley West just like last year. Brett Caladie had four RBIs and the most impressive stat is that no one on Crestwood struck out during the game.
