Crestwood takes fourth straight road game with victory over Berwick

The Crestwood Comets traveled to North Berwick Field as they took on the Berwick Bulldogs. The Comets are looking for their third straight victory on the week and stay in first place by themselves. The Bulldogs are looking to break a two game losing streak and play spoiler to the Comets. The Comets went to sophomore Brad Papura on the mound. Berwick went to Alec Markle for the start.
Markle would start off the game with a 1-2-3 inning. Markle would then lead off the bottom of the first with a walk but Papura would retire the next three batters to keep the game scoreless. Brandon Brozena would lead off by reaching on an error and would steal second base. After a strikeout, Mike Palmiero would double to right center to score Brozena for a 1-0 Crestwood lead. A flyout and a groundout would end the top of the second. Kaleb Gearinger would draw a two out walk but Papura would get another strikeout to end the second. Markle would another 1-2-3 inning in the third. Kevin Tanribilir would hit a lead off single but would be stranded there as Papura retired the next three batters. Justin Darden would lead off with a walk then Brozena would double to move courtesy runner Mick Bafunno to third. After a strikeout, Palmiero would draw a walk to load the bases. Bafunno would score on a passed ball to make it 2-0 Crestwood. After a strikeout, Nick Toronzi would reach on an error, scoring Brozena and Palmiero for a 4-0 lead. A groundout would end the Crestwood half of the inning. Papura would throw a 1-2-3 inning for the Comets. Darden would hit a two out single then Brozena followed with a single but a groundout would end the top of the fifth. Mike Lombargo would draw a one out walk then Nick Vital would come in to pitch for the Comets. Tanribilir would get hit by a pitch then Markle would single to load the bases. However, Vital would get a 6-4-3 double play to end the fifth with no Berwick runs. Nick Feudale would come in to pitch for the Bulldogs. Evan Knapp would hit a one out double. After a flyout, Wyatt Kindler would single to move Knapp to third but Kindler would get out at second trying to stretch it out and that's how the top of the sixth ended. Max Slusser would hit a one out single and would get lifted for a pinch runner in Ryan Brown. Then Henry Novicki and Ryan Stottler would hit singles to load the bases. Gearinger would get the Bulldogs on the board with a single that scored Brown and cut the Comet lead to 4-1. The Comets would go to Corey Chalk. Chalk would a strikeout and a popup to third to end the sixth. Logan Bello would come in to pitch for Berwick. Bafunno would come in to pinch hit and would hit a single to lead off the top of the seventh but Bello would retire the next three batters to keep the deficit at three runs. Mark McCracken would hit a one out single to get things started for the Bulldogs. Jared Marshman would follow with a single. After a strikeout, Novicki looked like he would have a base hit but second basemen Nick Toronzi would dive on it and flip it to shortstop Brett Caladie for the third out as the Comets took down the Berwick Bulldogs 4-1. The Comets stayed in sole possession of first place with one league game remaining.

Thoughts on the game: This was an interesting game to say the least. The Comets pitching was tough for most of the game. Papura pitched well through 4 and 1/3 innings. He struck out 4 while giving up one hit. For Berwick, Alec Markle pitched really well, striking out seven.
