Crestwood gets past Coughlin

The Crestwood Comets traveled to Hilldale Park as they took on the Coughlin Crusaders. The Crusaders are looking for their first win of the season. The Comets are looking to get into first with a win and a Valley West loss. Eric Witner got the start for Crestwood. The Crusaders went to Darryn Marek. 

Colin Macko would draw a one out walk and then steal second and go to third on a throwing error. Justin Darden would hit a flyball to center to score Macko for a 1-0 Crestwood lead. A popout would end the Top of the first. George Oko would draw a walk. Witner would pick him off at first for the first out. Marek and Ben Yozwiak would draw walks then Tony Egidio would get hit by a pitch to load the bases but a 6-4-3 double play would end the first. Brandon Brozena would hit a single then move to second on a sacrifice bunt by Evan Knapp. Stew Caladie would reach on an error to move Brozena to third. Caden Rozitski would hit a double to left to score Brozena for a 2-0 lead. A popout and a flyout to center would end the Crestwood half of the inning. Tanner Smith would hit a single to left. After a flyout and a fielder's choice, Pedro Betancourt would draw a walk but a groundout would end the second. Macko would draw another walk and would steal second and would go to third on a groundout to second. After a strikeout, Brozena would bring home Macko on a single for a 3-0 lead. A flyout would end the Top of the third. Witner would throw a 1-2-3 third inning for the Comets. Matt Taleroski would hit a two out single and Brett Caladie would draw a walk but a strikeout would top half of the fourth inning. Tanner Smith would get hit by a pitch with two outs but a groundout to first would end the fourth. Brozena would get his third single of the game with two outs in the fifth. Knapp would draw a walk then Stew Caladie would double to score Brozena and a 4-0 lead. A strikeout would end the Crestwood half of the fifth. Oko would get a one out single then Marek drew a walk. The Comets would go to Colby Jones in relief. Yozwiak would hit a single to load the bases. Oko would score on a wild pitch when the ball got trapped to cut the lead to 4-1. Jones would get a popup and a grounder to third to get out of the fifth. Taleroski would draw a leadoff walk then got to second on an errant pickoff then got to third on a stolen base. After a groundout, Taleroski would score on a wild pitch that was trapped for a 5-1 Comets lead. Josh Wychock would come in to pitch for the Crusaders. Macko would draw his third walk of the game. After a popup, pinch hitter Corey Chalk would hit a single then Brozena drew a walk to load the bases but a popout would end the inning. Dylan Bronack would draw a one out walk but a strikeout and a popout would end the sixth inning. Stew Caladie would hit a double to lead off the top of the seventh. After a popout and a groundout to third, pinch hitter Chase Rinehimer would single home Caladie for a 6-1 Crestwood lead. A strikeout would end the Top of the seventh. Jones would strike out the side in the bottom of the seventh as the Comets beat Coughlin 6-1. The Comets would end up in first place as Hazleton Area beat Valley West 8-6.

Thoughts on the game: Crestwood's pitching did really well. They gave up three hits and struck out six. Brandon Brozena had a good game at the plate, going 3 for 3 and Stew Caladie had two doubles. For Coughlin, George Oko had a single and a run scored.
