The Dallas Mountaineers traveled to Mountain Top's Veteran Field to play the Crestwood Comets. The Mountaineers are coming off a loss on Friday. The Comets are coming in having won their last two games. The Mountaineers went to Nick Kocher as their starting pitcher. The Comets started Brad Papura on the mound.
Will McCrum would reach on an error with one out and get to second. Mike Luksic would single him home for a 1-0 Mountaineers lead. A fielder's choice and a flyout would end the top of the first. Colin Macko would draw a one out walk then Justin Darden would single to move Macko to second. Mike Palmiero would walk to load the bases then an error on an infield fly would score Macko to tie the game at 1. A groundout would end the inning. Josh Holdredge would hit a two out single then a fielder's choice would end the inning. Wyatt Kindler would reach on an error, but a strikeout, a caught stealing and a popout would end the second. McCrum would hit a one out single then Mike Luksic would draw a walk, then a flyout and Wyatt Kindler would throw out McCrum trying to go to third for the third out of the inning. With one out in the bottom of the third, Colin Macko would hit an opposite field to left to give the Comets a 2-1 lead. Darden would follow with a single. After a strikeout, Corey Chalk would single but runner's interference would end the inning. Matt Mathers would hit a single then Drew Patton would double to move Mathers to third. Zach Luksic would get hit by a pitch to load the bases, then Holdredge would hit a grand slam to give the Mountaineers a 5-2 lead. With a 2-0 count, Connor Kaminski would come in to pitch for the Comets. Mike Collins would draw a walk as would Darren Kerdesky then McCrum would move Collins and Kerdesky with a sacrifice bunt. Kocher would bring home Collins for a 6-2 lead on a fielder's choice. Mathers' second at-bat in the inning would a single that would score Kerdesky and Kocher for an 8-2 Mountaineer lead. A groundout would end the inning. Kocher would strike out the side in the fourth. Nick Vital would come in to pitch for the Comets. Holdredge would draw a one out walk. After a strikeout, Kerdesky would get hit by a pitch but a strikeout would end the top of the fifth. Kocher would throw another 1-2-3 inning in the fifth. Vital would throw a 1-2-3 sixth for the Comets. Kocher would throw his third straight 1-2-3 inning. Patton would lead off with a single but Vital would get the next three outs. Kocher would retire the next two batters and would have to leave due to the pitch count rule as he reached 100 pitches. Alex Kapral would come in to pitch for the Mountaineers. He would get a strikeout to end the game as the Mountaineers took down the Crestwood Comets 8-2.
Thoughts on the game: The fourth inning was a huge factor in the game. The Mountaineers would score seven in the inning and after that, Nick Kocher would settle down and retire the last 11 batters he faced then Kapral would finish up the game. Josh Holdredge had a great game with a grand slam as well as two hits on the game. For the Comets, Colin Macko had a home run and Justin Darden had two hits on the day. Nick Vital did well in relief, going three innings without allowing a run.
