Comets win tight game over Valley West

The Valley West Spartans played host to the Crestwood Comets on Monday afternoon. The Comets are looking for their second straight victory and look to get within a half game of first place. The Spartans are looking to seal up the division. The Spartans went to Nate Baranski. Corey Chalk got the start for the Comets. 

Colin Macko hit a one out double but back-to-back strikeouts would end the Top of the first. Draig Ruff would draw a one out walk then Austin Sienkiewicz would hit a double to center to move Ruff to third. After a popout for the second out then Michael Kane would draw a walk to load the bases. A popout would end the first inning. Evan Knapp and Wyatt Kindler would draw two out walks then Matt Taleroski would hit a double to score Knapp and Kindler for a 2-0 Crestwood lead. A groundout would end the Crestwood half of the second. Tommy Federici would hit a single but a 6-4-3 and a comebacker to Chalk would end the second. Baranski would throw a 1-2-3 top of the third. Ruff would draw a one out walk but a 1-6-3 double play would end the third. Brandon Brozena would hit a one out single. After a flyout, Kindler would get hit by a pitch and would leave the game in the bottom of the fourth with an injury. A popout would end the inning. Kane would hit a one out single but a groundout and a strikeout would end the inning. Brett Caladie would hit an infield single but Baranski would retire the next three batters to end the Top of the fifth. Zach Kobusky would hit a single but would get out at second on an Tyler O'Kane fielder's choice. A wild pitch would move O'Kane to second then Ruff would single home O'Kane to cut the Crestwood lead to 2-1. Chalk would get another strikeout to end the fifth. Baranski would throw a 1-2-3 inning in the sixth. Chalk would throw a 1-2-3 sixth for the Comets. Mick Bafunno would get hit by a pitch then move to second on a sacrifice bunt by Matt Taleroski. Due to the pitch limit, Pat Adamski would come in relief for the Spartans. A groundout would move Bafunno to third and Macko would be intentionally walked. A flyout would end the Top of the seventh. Chalk would get a strikeout and flyout to right and would leave due to the pitch limit. Nick Vital would come in to pitch for the Comets. Kobusky would get hit by a pitch but Vital would get a groundout to end the game as the Comets took down Valley West 2-1. 

Thoughts on the game: It was truly a pitcher's duel today. Chalk and Baranski pitched really well. Chalk would strikeout five and Baranski would strikeout 6. Matt Taleroski had the big hit today and drove in both Crestwood runs. Draig Ruff had a good game at the plate, hitting an RBI single and drawing two walks.
