Holy Cross wins 2A Boys District Title

After a sluggish start, Holy Cross started to pull away, they went on an 11-2 to end the first quarter and the Crusaders went from there as they took another District 2 2A Basketball Championship with a 61-26 victory over Blue Ridge. “It never gets old.” Said Holy Cross Al Callejas on winning the District Championship. "At halftime, I told them we needed to close our traps quicker and better. We picked that up, we started getting steals and that's what opened it up." said Callejas on his team's first half struggles.

For senior point guard Hayden Hosie, this District Championship felt different. "With it being my senior year, it's my last chance to play here. It's awesome." Hosie said. He finished with a game high 17 points but knew that it was a team effort. "Everyone is buying in on defense and that's what wins us games."

Holy Cross took a 5-2 but Blue Ridge scored back to back baskets to take a 6-5 lead but the Crusaders went on an 11-2 run to end the quarter as Holy Cross led 16-8. Hayden Hosie hit a basket to make it a ten point lead for the Crusaders. Blue Ridge cut the lead down to six at one point but Holy Cross then built the lead back up to ten with a free throw from Matt Lyons and a three pointer by Gabe Gonzales and led 24-16 at halftime. They increased their lead in the second half and cruised to a 61-26 victory over Blue Ridge to win the District 2 2A Boys Championship. Connor Cranage finished with 13 points and James Barbour added six for the Blue Ridge Red Raiders.
