The End of the Season

Well, here we are, the end of the spring sports season and with that, high school sports comes to a close til August. It has been a crazy baseball and softball tournament hasn't it? Well here are some of the highlights of the District 2 teams in Districts and in States.

The craziest win goes to....
The Crestwood/Coughlin 1st Round District 2 baseball matchup. Crestwood was trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the 7th. Crestwood would then tie the game on a wild pitch and then eventually win on a wild pitch a few batters later for a 3-2 win. Crestwood would get past Berwick in the quarters before falling to Valley View in the semis.

There's a first time for everything
Northwest would win their 1st District Title and yet it was the most improbable run to the Finals. As the 7 seed, they had to face defending champion Montrose in the quarterfinals and Lackawanna League Division 3 champ Holy Cross in the semis before having to face WVC Dovision rival Hanover Area, who was making their 3rd straight appearance in the finals. It seemed like they were underdogs in every matchup from the quarterfinals on but they prevailed each time.

State Playoff Runs
Last year, Valley West and Abington Heights baseball proved that District 2 teams can go very far in the State Playoffs. North Pocono proved it again this year when they advanced to the State semifinals and only lost 1-0 to Susquehanna Twp. On the softball side, 3 teams from District 2 advanced to the semifinals in Holy Redeemer, Abington Heights and Hazleton Area. Valley West and Forest City baseball also made a nice run, advancing to the state quarterfinals.

Back-to-Back
Congrats to the Holy Redeeemer Royals softball team for winning back-to-back State Championships. Their run was just really impressive considering in the District 2 tournament, they had to fight in their quarterfinal matchup against Elk Lake and won on a walk-off and then in the District Finals, were trailing 3-0, then tied and in extras trailed again and won in the bottom half to win the District title. To mention, they trailed their first round state matchup and their quarterfinal matchup before dominating their semifinal and Championship game. The run they had was just incredible and we'll see what happens next year with this program and hopefully they can go for the 3peat

And Finally.....
I want thank anyone who has been reading the blog this year. Whether it was a game article or just the weekly ones. Stay tuned over the summer as I may have a few things up my sleeve and Inwill definitely be up and at it when August comes around and then football season is right around the corner. Well, with that, the 2015-2016 High School Sports season comes to a close. Congrats to all the seniors who graduate or already have graduated and good luck with whatever you have planned.
