Big second quarter surge propels Crestwood over Wyoming Area

The Crestwood Comets hosted the Wyoming Area Warriors on Thursday night for opening night of Wyoming Valley Conference play. Both teams are looking to start off 1-0 as they head into January. The Comets are currently 2-2 on the season with tough losses to Wyoming Seminary and Williamsport. The Warriors are 1-2 with a victory against Forest City. Who will come out on top in this WVC Crossover game? Let's find out!
Wyoming Area started off by hitting a bunch of their three point shots and would lead 6-5. The Comets would go on a run that would start with a three point play by Ryan Petrosky and continue on a 14-2 run at the end of the first quarter as Crestwood would lead 20-8 after one. The Comets would continue their run with an 11-0 run and the Warriors wouldn't get their first basket til a little more than four minutes remaining in the second quarter. The Comets would lead 36-19 at halftime and would cruise from there for a 74-42 victory. The Comets would have four players in double digits. Ryan Petrosky and Camden Boris each had 14 points. Mike Palmiero had 13 and Sean Murphy added 12. The Warriors' Dan Wiedl led all scorers with 16 points.

Thoughts on the game: Early on, I thought it could be an interesting game with Wyoming Area hitting their three pointers but Crestwood would pull away late in the first quarter and never look back from there. Ryan Petrosky had an excellent game as did Camden Boris. For Wyoming Area, Dan Wiedl had a good game with 16 points.

However, a basket by Nick Ganter and a three point play by Dmitri Gnall would increase the lead to 10. The Comets would cut the Blue Knights' lead to four with a three pointer by Sean Murphy and a pair of free throws by Ryan Petrosky but the Blue Knights would pull away and take a 61-49 road victory over Crestwood.
