Lake-Lehman takes WVC Division 2 Championship

The first quarter was phenominal for the Lake-Lehman Lady Knights. The shots were falling and their defense was fantastic as they gave up only one field goal in the first quarter. They did not up a field goal until seconds were remaining in the first quarter. The Black Knights had a 20-0 lead at one point and took home the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 Championship with a 60-43 victory at Nanticoke Area High School. "It was an amazing start. I couldn't imagine a better one." Lake-Lehman head coach Charlie Lavan said.
The Lady Knights made the first 20 points of the game. Started with a three pointer by Ella Wilson, then free throws by Hailey Kline, a basket by Breanna Hunt, a three pointer by Lia Keefe. Five straight points from Hunt and topped off with a three pointer by Kline. Holy Redeemer got their first points with 2:41 remaining in the first quarter when Jillian Debalso hit a pair of free throws. Mia Ashton got the Lady Royals their first basket of the game with seconds remaining in the first quarter but Lake-Lehman led 24-4 at the end of the first quarter.
Holy Redeemer attempted to pull off a comeback but Lake-Lehman led by 18 at halftime and by 17 at the end of the third quarter. The Lady Royals eventually cut the lead to 10 at one point in the fourth quarter but Lake-Lehman hit a bunch of free throws down the stretch and took a 60-43 victory to win the Division 2 crown. FOr Lake-Lehman, Ella Wilson scored a game-high 20 points and Hailey Kline added 15. For the Lady Royals, Mia Ashton led the team with 12 points and Jillian Delbalso added 11. Both teams will play in the Wyoming Valley Conference Tournament that starts on Wednesday at Holy Redeemer High School. Lake-Lehman will play Hazleton Area and Holy Redeemer will play Division 1 Champion Pittston Area.
