Aufiero propels Nanticoke to victory on Senior Night over Wyoming Area
The Trojanettes were looking for a victory on Senior Night and they trailed by one at halftime. Junior Claire Aufiero took control in the second half, scoring 17 of her 24 points en route to a 32-27 at home over Wyoming Area. Sophia Lukowski added 5 points for the Trojanettes.
The game was scoreless for two and a half minutes when Aufiero made a three point play and then hit a basket for a 5-0 Nanticoke lead. Lady Warriors senior Morgan Janeski got them on the board with a three pointer. The Trojanettes led 7-3 at the end of the first quarter.
Wyoming Area started the second quarter on a 7-0 run with a basket by Olivia Rome, a pair of free throws by Janeski and a three pointer by Halle Kranson for a 10-7 Lady Warrior lead. Grace Reed hit a jumper to cut Wyoming Area's lead to one but Janeski hit a basket to bring the lead back to three. With a little under a minute to go, Sophia Lukowski hit a basket and we hit halftime as Wyoming Area led 12-11.
The Trojanettes took the lead early in the third as Aufiero hit a three pointer. The Lady Warriors tied the game up as Olivia Allen hit one of two free throws. Aufiero then scored six straight points and Navaeh Baran hit a basket to make it an eight point Nanticoke lead. Wyoming Area hit three of four free throws to cut the lead to 21-16 at the end of the third quarter.
Aufiero started the fourth quarter with five straight points to increase the Trojanette lead to 10. The Lady Warriors answered with a 7-0 run to cut the lead down to three. Aufiero then hit a three pointer to increase the lead to six. The Trojanette defense held strong and did not allow a field goal the rest of the way as Nanticoke took the victory 32-27. Morgan Janeski had a team high 14 points and Jocelyn Williams added seven.
