Crestwood takes opener over Scranton

The Scranton Knights traveled to Mountain Top on Friday night to take on the Crestwood Comets. The Knights finished last season as the District 2 runner-up in 6A. The Comets also finished as the District runner-up in 5A but advanced to the second round of the PIAA 5A State Playoffs and lost to Pottsville.
The Comets would start off hot and go to an 8-2 lead but Scranton would go on a 7-0 run and take a 9-8 lead. The rest of the quarter would be a back and forth and Crestwood would lead 17-15 at the end of the first quarter. The Knights would take the lead on a basket by John Rose and a three pointer by Patrick McCormack to make it 20-17 but the Comets would get back to back baskets from Marcus Vieney and a three point play by Jake Zaleski to regain the lead at 28-21. The Comets would take a 37-31 lead at halftime.
The Comets' Ryan Petrosky would start off the second half with 9 of the Comets 11 points on their 11-0 run. Kevin Lazdowsky would end the Knights drought with a basket but Paul Feisel would drain back to back three pointers. The Comets would end up leading 61-43 at the end of the third quarter. The Comets would lead as much as 17 but Scranton would make it interesting with Lazdowsky scoring 8 straight points and Tylil White hitting a basket to cut the lead to seven but Paul Feisel would get a basket and sink two free throws as the Comets would take the season opener with a 71-62 victory over Scranton. Ryan Petrosky would score a game high 21 points for Crestwood and Marcus Vieney also added 12 in the victory. For the Knights, Jason Shields had a team high 13 and Patrick McCormack and Kevin Lazdowsky each added 12 points.

Thoughts on the game: The Comets looked really good overall. Marcus Vieney played a really good game on both sides of the ball. Ryan Petrosky also had a good game with 21 points. For the Knights, Patrick McCormack had a really good game shooting. He scored 12 points on the night.
