Royals get past Hughesville

The Hughesville Lady Spartans and the Holy Redeemer Lady Royals traveled to Wyoming Area High School for the first round of the 3A Girls State Playoffs. Hughesville comes in as second seed coming out of District 4. Holy Redeemer is the second seed out of District 2. Who would come out on top of this matchup of District runner-ups? Let's find out!

Hughesville would take an early 5-4 lead midway through the first quarter but the Royals would go on a 10-0 run as the first quarter came to an end with Holy Redeemer leading 14-5. Hughesville would answer in the second quarter with a 5-0 run to cut the lead to four. The Spartans would hold the Royals to four points in the second. As the second quarter was coming to an end, Hughesville would go on a 6-0 run and tie the game at 18 as we headed to halftime.

The Royals would start off with a quick 5-0 run and would hold Hughesville to four points in the quarter. They never looked back in the third as they would lead 34-22 at the end of the quarter. The Lady Royals would cruise after that for a 44-34 victory over Hughesville.

Thoughts on the game: The game was an interesting one. The Royals looked like late in the first quarter, they would dominate. However, Hughesville was able to tie going into halftime. Holy Redeemer would dominate in the second half. Samantha Rajza had a great game with 14 points as did Samantha Yencha, who did well in the paint and scored a game-high 16 points.
