It was homecoming week in Mountain Top as the Crestwood Comets hosted the Nanticoke Trojans. The Comets came out tonight in an all black scheme with black shirts and black pants with red for the numbering. Both teams were looking to get back on track as both are on losing streak. Crestwood is on a three game losing streak and the Trojans are on a two game winning streak. Who's streak would be broken on this Saturday night? We'll find out soon enough. The Comets started with the ball. Nick Grosek would start with a 14 yard carry and then Pat Rother would get the Comets into Trojans territory with an 18 yard run. After a false start, Grosek would go for a 19 yard run and then go for another run of 19 to make it first and goal at the one. After failing to get in on first and goal then second and goal, Garrett Swank would go to Brandon Brozena for a one yard touchdown pass. The PAT would make it 7-0 with 9:17 remaining in the first quarter. The Comets defense would go three and out and then block a Trojans punt that would be recovered at the ten yard line. The Comets would face a fourth and goal and Swank would go to Brandon Nieminski for a five yard score. The PAT would make it 14-0 with 6:19 in the first quarter. On the Trojans possession, Colby Butczynski would go to Matt Bobeck for 15 yards. Manny Saldana would go for a 10 yard gain then go for 34 on the next play to get to the Crestwood 17 and then they would face a fourth and 8 at the Crestwood 15 and the pass would fall incomplete forcing a turnover on downs. Grosek would gain 11 on the first play, but penalties would move the Comets and then Swank's pass would be intercepted by Dylan Szychowski. The Trojans would face a fourth and 10 and the pass would fall incomplete but a holding call would give a Trojans a first down as the quarter comes to an end. They would face a fourth and 9 at the Crestwood 34 but another incompletion would give the Comets the ball back. On the fourth play, Grosek would go 51 yards to the end zone for the score. The PAT would be no good as the Comets would lead 20-0 with 9:50 remaining in the second quarter. The Trojans would face a third and 12 and Butczynski's pass would be intercepted by Kevin Klusewitz and returned 48 yards for a touchdown. They would go for two and get it. The Trojans would face a third and 5 and Saldana would only get one yard but a five yard facemask call would give the Trojans a first down. They would be forced to punt on the next set of downs but the Comets would muff it and the Trojans would recover. The Trojans would face a fourth and 8 at the Nanticoke 40 and Butczynski would find Joe Ammons but would lose a yard but would force a turnover on downs. On the next drive, Swank would find Nieminski for a 20 yard touchdown, their second time of the game. The Trojans would go three and out and the Comets would run the ball out as we headed to halftime 35-0. The Comets would cruise in the second half, only allowing a 16 yard touchdown run by Manny Saldana. The final score was 35-7 in favor of the Comets. The Comets snap a three game losing streak.
Thoughts on the game: It was definitely a surprising performance by the Comets. The Trojans injuries definitely showed. They were missing wideout Darren Boseman and star running back Eric Jeffries. Not to take away from the Comets, Garrett Swank had a great game tonight, throwing for three touchdowns, two of them were to Brandon Nieminski.
