After Crestwood tied the game being down 11. Scranton had a chance for a game winning shot. The play didn’t go as designed but Jaheam Roberts threw the ball up to Pedro Lugo for an alley-oop dunk with 4.8 seconds to go. The Knights stopped the Comets last chance to tie the game as they got a 47-45 victory in Mountain Top on Friday night. “Wasn’t exactly the play designed but we’ll take it.” Scranton head coach Tony Battaglia said. “We were trying to get the ball down to Pedro. He’s tough down there. We try to get the ball in his hands and it worked out for us.”
Scranton started the game off strong, getting a 10-2 lead early in the first quarter. Highlighted by a three pointer by Tony Battaglia’s three pointer and steal. Crestwood stayed within six points at the end of the first quarter as Ayden Agopito scored six points in the quarter. The Knights got the lead as much as ten points. Giovanni Barna hit a buzzer beating three before halftime to cut Scranton’s lead to 25-19.
The Knights had a ten point lead late in the third quarter after some back and forth action. Ayden Agopito got a three point play off a dunk to cut the lead down to 7 as the third quarter came to an end. Scranton started the fourth quarter by scoring the first two field goals of the frame, increasing their lead to 11. The Comets attempted to mount a comeback. Barna started with a basket, then Ryan Sechleer scored five straight points to cut the deficit down to 43-39. Lugo got a basket to increase the lead to six. Agopito hit a three pointer to make it a three point game then after a stop, Crestwood’s gym erupted as Brady Grevera hit a three pointer to tie the game at 45. Scranton called timeout with 9.7 to go. On the ensuing possession, Roberts found Lugo on an alley-oop dunk to give the Knights a 47-45 lead. The Comets took a timeout with 4.8 left. Crestwood’s final attempt came up short as Scranton took a 47-45 victory. Tony Battaglia and Pedro Lugo each had a team high 13 points for the Knights. For the Comets, Ayden Agopito had a game-high 14 points and Ryan Sechleer added nine points.
