Trojans take down Mountaineers

The Nanticoke Trojans and Dallas Mountaineers played at PNC Field on a blustery Wednesday afternoon. It was their first conference game of the season. Dallas sent Alex Kapral to the mound. The Trojans started Colby Butczynski on the mound.
Butczynski would start with a 1-2-3 top of the first  Kapral would also have a 1-2-3 inning in the first. Butczynski would have his second straight 1-2-3 inning. Trahjan Krupinski would strikeout but a passed ball would get him to first. Tyler Pokrinchak would single to move Krupinski to third. After a groundout, Dylan Szychowski would have an RBI groundout to score Krupinski for a 1-0 Trojans lead. Jake Krupinski would then triple to right to score Pokrinchak for a 2-0 lead. Jadyn Heald would single home Krupinski to increase the lead to 3-0. Luke Myers would follow with a single. Heffron would reach on an error that would score Heald and Myers for a 5-0. Another error by the Mountaineers would score Heffron for a 6-0. Trahjan Krupinski would get hit by a pitch. A popout would end the Top of the second. Jake Shaver would hit a single but a double play and a flyout would end the inning. Kapral would throw a 1-2-3 third for the Mountaineers. Beau Lewis would reach on a passed ball after a strikeout. Lucas McGeehan would draw a walk. After a strikeout, Jake Connolly would hit a single and Lewis would score after a misplay to get Dallas on the board. However, a 6-4-3 double play would end the Top of the fourth. Shaver would come in to pitch the fourth for the Mountaineers. Myers would draw a one out walk and would steal second. After a strikeout, Derek Cease would hit a single to score Myers for a 7-1 lead. Trahjan Krupinski would single to move Cease to third. Cease would score on a pick play for an 8-1 advantage. A flyout would end the inning. Shaver would hit a one out double, but Butczynski would get back-to-back groundouts would end the Top of the fifth. Nick Matson would reach on an error to lead off the bottom of the fifth. After a strikeout and a fielder's choice, Chris Ormes would hit a single and Myers would draw a walk, but a flyout would end the fifth. Butczynski would get a groundout for the first out of the sixth and Nanticoke would bring in Matson and would get a groundout and a flyout to end the Top of the sixth. Cease would hit a single but three straight strikeouts by Shaver would end the sixth. Connolly would lead off with a single. After back-to-back strikeouts, Shaver would reach on an error then Freddie Lombardo would hit a double to left to score Connolly and Shaver for a 8-3 score but a flyout would end the game as the Nanticoke Trojans would take an 8-3 victory over the Dallas Mountaineers.

Thoughts on the game: Nanticoke's Colby Butczynski pitched very well. He went 5.1 innings and gave up one unearned run, striking out six and walking one batter. Derek Cease had a great game at the plate and in the field. Going 2 for 4 with a RBI single in the fourth and a run scored. For Dallas, Jake Shaver had a really good game, going 2 for 3 with a double and throwing three innings in relief, giving up 2 runs and striking out six.
