In the second game at Wyoming Area, Dallas and Nanticoke faced off for the second time this season in front of a packed gym. Both teams looking to get to the Finals and the winner would face Berwick at the Mohegan Sun Arena on Thursday. It would a tightly contested game right from the start but Dallas would start off the game with a 6-2 lead and the Trojanettes would try to come back into the game and would tie the game at 9 on a steal and layup by Riley Klepadlo and Alyssa Lewis gave Nanticoke the lead shortly until Sara Lojewski hit a three in the waning seconds of the first to give the Lady Mountaineers a 12-11 lead at the end of one. Nanticoke got back the lead on a basket by Lewis and a steal and basket by Kayla Aufiero but a free throw by Lojewski and a basket by Lauren Charlton tied up the game. Lisa Radziak gave the Trojanettes a one point but a basket by Gianna Centrella gave the Mountaineers the lead. After several ties and lead changes, the Mountaineers would start to pull away and lead 26-21 at halftime. The Mountaineers and Trojanettes traded baskets until Maddie Kelley scored 5 straight points and Hanna Johnson made it a 7-0 run to make it a 10 point advantage. Everytime the Trojanettes scored, the Mountaineers answered with a basket and would lead 46-38 after 3 quarters. The Mountaineers had an early 10 point lead but the Trojanettes kept on fighting. Nanticoke would go on a 8-0 run to cut the lead to 2. A pair of Sara Lojewski free throws made it a 4 point lead for the Mountaineers. Katie Butczynski's 2 free throws made it a 2 point game once again and a steal and bucket by Klepadlo tied the game at 50 and a free throw by Butczynski gave the Trojanettes a 1 point lead, then an Alyssa Lewis free throw, followed by another Butczynski free throws made it a 3 point lead. A pair of free throws by Dallas's Gianna Centrella made it only a one point game. Dallas would get the ball with 11.1 left and the Trojanettes's defense would hold to send them to the District Finals with a 55-54 victory over the Dallas Mountaineers. Riley Klepadlo had a game high 19 points for the Trojanettes. Katie Butczynski and Alyssa Lewis added 13 points each for Nanticoke. For the Mountaineers, Maddie Kelley had 17 points and Lauren Charlton had 14 points.
Thoughts on the game: What a comeback by the Trojanettes!!! Down 10 in the fourth quarter and end up winning by 1. It came down to the pressure they gave Dallas during that fourth quarter and the final stop basically said it all for Nanticoke. Not to be overshadowed, Alyssa Lewis had a great game off the bench, scoring 13 points. Riley Klepadlo and Kayla Aufiero had great games, especially in the fourth quarter with several steals. In all honesty, both teams should be commended on a great game. Dallas was very impressive. Sara Lojewski had a very good game. I was impressed as well by Lauren Charlton, who scored 14 points by making several plays.
