Crestwood coming off a victory over Hazleton Area on Thursday hosted Valley West. Valley West came in leading WVC Division 1. Valley West started off on a 13-2 run and lead 13-5 after 1. Valley West continued their dominance and would lead 30-16 at halftime thanks to 20 combined points from Andi Blaski and Gabby Smicherko. The start of the third quarter started with both teams trading baskets and free throws. Crestwood would go on an 8-0 run to end the quarter and cut the lead to 6. Valley West would rebound in the fourth quarter with a 9-1 run to start the quarter and would cruise to take the victory 48-36. Erin Gibbons had 16 points, Gabby Smicherko scored 15 and Andi Blaski had 13 for the Lady Spartans. Julia Makowski had 16 points and Sara Hopkins scored 10 for the Lady Comets.
Thoughts on the game: Valley West looked very good with the exception of the third quarter where they scored 5 but rebounded in the fourth to take the victory. I can see how they were able to take down Hazleton Area and looks like they can be a threat for the District title in 5A. I was very impressed by the Lady Spartans as a team. For Crestwood, Julia Makowski had a great game, with 16 points. Kept fighting back despite being down double digits for most of the game.
