Pittston Area came into the District 2 Playoffs as the No 13 seed as they traveled to Mountain Top to take on the No 4 seeded Crestwood Comets. Pittston Area would lead throughout most of the first quarter but Crestwood would take an 11-10 in the final seconds of the first and lead at the end of 1. Pittston Area would take the lead early and would outscore Crestwood 14-4 in the quarter. Dylan Osticco hit a buzzer-beating layup to take a 24-15 lead at halftime. Crestwood and Pittston Area would manage 1 point in the first three minutes of the third and Crestwood would cut the deficit to 6 but Pittston Area would answer with several baskets and take a 9 point lead after 3 quarters. Pittston Area would lead as much as 12 points but Crestwood would answer back, cutting the lead to 6 with under a minute to play but Pittston Area would upset Crestwood 42-39. Jordan Black lead the Patriots with 11 points and Dylan Osticco added 9. For Crestwood, Josh Malkemes had a game-high 13 points and Lance Blass added 9.
Thoughts on the game: Great win for the Patriots, an overall team effort for Pittston Area. They deserved to win and played a great game on defense. I believe every player that got on the floor scored. Pat Mitchell played great in the second half, scoring 6 of his 8 points in the 2nd half, as well as Jordan Black, who had 6 of his 11 in the second half. For Crestwood, great game by Josh Malkemes, who scored 13 points, as well as Lance Blass who added 9.
