DCFFL Week 6 Breakdown and Midseason report

We are officially at the halfway mark of the season. Rosters are finalized and several teams are going for their playoff push while several teams are looking to play spoiler. The Assassins remain the league’s last undefeated team. It should be an interesting second half with several teams looking to get the two first round byes. With that let’s get into the Midseason report and game previews.

Midseason report

Center of Attention

Record: (0-6)

Avg. Points per game: 8.8

Ave. Points scored on per game: 30.1

Combined OPP Record: 19-12

Remaining Schedule:BL, SA, PYM, BB

New to the DCFFL, Tony Nyzio's team was an unknown. They have a few bright spots on the team in Archibald, Dame, Getz, and Hall.  Coach Nyzio came in with high expectations and called out some other coaches during the coaches meeting but with the worse scoring offense in the league, Center of Attention has the attention of nobody at this point. Look for COA to secure their 1st win of the season week 9 or 10.  They are out of playoff contention.

Backyard Bullies

Record: 0-5

Avg. Points Per game: 12.4

Avg. points scored on per game: 37.6

Combined OPP Record: 19-7

Remaining Schedule: PYM, WBK, HW, BL, COA

Backyard Bullies is back for 2nd season under a new name. Struggling to get guys week in and week out has made it difficult for the Bullies to find their first win. They have had a different roster almost every week. Props to Coach Vanderlick for not having to forfeit a game this year but may have to change that name to the Backyard Shenanigans. Bullies are coming off one of their best performances of the year vs Undecided. They play a beat up Pylon team this week but will that be enough?  Look for Bullies vs COA in the final week to be the toilet bowl!

Wilkes- Barre Kings

Record: (1-4)

Avg. Points per game: 12.4

Ave. Points scored on per game: 25

Combined OPP Record: 12-13

Remaining Schedule: HW, BB, Panthers, SA, Outlaws

Another new team to the DCFFL. The Kings are led by Jay Garcia JR and Tre Witta K but Coach Casas and the Kings have struggled early on on the offensive side of the ball. Coach Casas came into the season having his team ready with practices and conditioning prior to and always has his full team there on game day but the Kings look more like the Queens thus far. They have one of the toughest schedules remaining so don't bet on WBK to make the playoffs this year.

Pylon your Mom

Record: (1-4)

Avg. Points per game: 14.4

Ave. Points scored on per game: 27.8

Combined OPP Record: 15-11

Remaining Schedule:BB, HW, PT, COA, TU

A long time veteran team of the league has struggled miserably this season. They have had a hard time of putting 2 halves of football together. Have showed signs of sticking with the top teams but have struggled at the QB position and with injuries. Jarod Genasevich ranks top 5 in the league in sacks is the bright spot for this team. Do they have enough to make a playoff run or will Pylon your mom walk away with just the best team name in the league?

Panthers

Record: (3-3)

Avg. Points per game: 18.3

Ave. Points scored on per game: 11.8

Combined OPP Record: 13-19

Remaining Schedule:SA, OL, WBK, HW

Panthers started off the season with a 20-0 loss however since have been in every game and are coming into week 6 on a 2 game winning streak.  Having played one of the easiest schedule to this point, are the contenders or pretenders? Malik Kaleta ranks 2nd in league with 6 interceptions. Ammons and Schmitz respectively have 18 receptions each ranking them in the top 5. Panthers have a tough schedule outside the Kings to end the season, I believe they will need to win 2 of the 4 to be playoff contenders. Can the Panthers defense who is tied with only letting up 11.8 points per game have what it takes to stop the lead league scoring offenses in the Assassins and Outlawz the next two weeks? Nonetheless, as a new team with no veteran players, the Panthers have come in loud and proud!

Busch Lattes

Record: (3-2)

Avg. Points per game: 24.6

Ave. Points scored on per game: 15.4

Combined OPP Record: 14-12

Remaining Schedule: TU, BB, PT, OL

Coach Cliff Francis took his brothers and kept the Busch Lattes alive this season, leaving Nick Dye and Russ Monroe to fend for themselves. In week 1 albeit some controversy, Nick and Russ got the first laugh with a 26-25 victory. But the Lattes are a top playoff contender, having had to start 3 different QBs this year, they have given fits to every team this year with one of the best O-lines in the league. They don't make many mistakes having only thrown 3 total INTs as a team. Jeremy Francis continues to be a top wideout in the league ranking 3rd in receptions this year(21). In just 3 games this season, QB Justin Francis has 9 total TDs and only 1 INT.  If Justin can return for the Lattes, they will be hard to beat here on out. But watch out for Sef Hall if he continues to run the gun for the Lattes.

Outlawz

Record: (3-2)

Avg. Points per game: 30.2

Ave. Points scored on per game: 13.4

Combined OPP Record:  10-16

Remaining Schedule: TU, Panthers, PT, WBK, BL

A new team that everyone was excited to see in this league this year by the names of players alone. Any Wyoming Valley sports enthusiast would recognize all of them. Coach Pop Williams started his off season by trading Gerrys Pizza, Skittles, and a case of 4 loko for Lucky Williams and Nathan Bowden.  They came right out the gate vs defending champs and former team of Lucky and Nathan; The Silent Assassins, losing 29-14. They rattled off 3 straight wins with scoring over 40 points twice but fell last week 19-18 to the Heavyweights that had stellar reffing throughout the game. The Outlawz are a title contender come playoff time. They boast the 2nd best scoring offense and top defense. They are led by QB Lucky Williams, 18 total touchdowns and leads league in Rushing touchdowns and is top 5 in passing touchdowns. Lucky, is front runner for Offensive POY and League MVP. The defense is anchored by Breon Williams and his 10 sacks along with Frank Carter and his 5 interceptions. Look for the week 10 matchup vs. Busch Lattes to have serious playoff implications.

Pain Train

Record: (4-1)

Avg. Points per game: 23.6

Ave. Points scored on per game: 22.8

Combined OPP Record: 8-19

Remaining Schedule: SA, PYM, BL, OL,TU

John Kotsko's team under his 69th different team name for DCFFL has been a pleasant surprise this year, starting off the season 4-0 before getting trounced by the Heavyweights 48-6. However, John Kotsko and his team have been riding the Pain Train to Coach Kotsko's best record in DCFFL history. Pain Train is led by the Caladie brothers. Anthony is ranked top 5 in passing TDs, Rushing TDs, and completion %. Keep an eye out on him for OPOY or possibly MVP if Pain Train can continue its winning ways. Brett Caladie leads the league in receptions with 28 and ranks 3rd in touchdowns with 8 and leads the league with 9 Interceptions. Another player who will be vying for some awards at the end of the year. BUT is Pain train for real or have they benefitted off having the easiest schedule to date with a combined opponent record of 8-19? They come off a bye week vs the Silent Assassins and the road to a playoff berth does not get any easier for them. They will have to face Pylon, Busch Lattes, Outlawz, and the Undecided. Their Week 7 match up vs Pylon or week 10 vs The Undecided will determine their playoff fate.

The Undecided

Record: (4-1)

Avg. Points per game: 23

Ave. Points scored on per game: 11.8

Combined OPP Record: 8-19

Remaining Schedule: OL, SA, BL, PYM, PT

A newbie team who has silently built up a 4-1 record and has them sitting in 2nd place. The question remains, are they for real or like Pain Train, have they benefited from an easy schedule? That is yet to be DECIDED!. That schedule heats up though the second half as they face Outlaws, Assassins, Lattes, Pylon, and Pain Train.  Undecided are led by their QB Jamie Calloway who leads league with 16 touchdown passes. Wideouts Larry Anderscavage and Dajon Rush are their other playmakers, both are ranked in top 5 in league in receptions. Anderscavage leads the league with 10 touchdown receptions.  They boast the top defensive scoring D in the league letting up only 11.8 points per game and have a league leading 6 fumble recoveries. Can they hold Outlaws and Assassins to those standards? We will find out the next 2 weeks. Look for the match up vs Busch Lattes to have serious playoff implications.

Heavyweights

Record: (5-1)

Avg. Points per game: 29.5

Ave. Points scored on per game: 17.5

Combined OPP Record: 19-12

Remaining Schedule: WBK, PYM, BB, Panthers

Nick Dye and company left Busch Lattes, traded his soul for former Assassin Bobby Parada and the Heavyweights were formed!  By far the biggest team pound for pound in the league. The Heavyweights come in with the 3rd ranked scoring offense behind Nick Dyes 13 touchdown passes, 7 to Bobby Parada.  Their only loss was week 2 to the Assassins 29-20. They have a top defense led by Craig Nillson(10 sacks) and Ryan Miscavage (6) and a defense that has a league leading 5 defensive touchdowns. Russ Monroe is always a threat for them along with newcomer Dave Parsnik.  In what most were saying the game of the year last week, the heavyweight down 12-0 at halftime made the improbable comeback behind Dye and Miscavage's performances to win 19-18 vs the Outlawz. Look for the Heavyweights to roll through the 2nd half of the season and secure a bye come playoff time.

Silent Assassins

Record: (5-0)

Avg. Points per game: 30.6

Ave. Points scored on per game: 14

Combined OPP Record: 11-14

Remaining Schedule: Panthers, PT, COA, TU, WBK

Assassins came in as the defending champs and pretty much have lived up to the hype. Despite winning 2 games with their back up QB, the Assassin boast the top offensive scoring team averaging 30.6 points a game. They started off the season with Outlaws and Heavyweights which was no easy task but came out with both wins. The offense is led by reigning MVP Vinnie Cirello( 9 touchdowns, 24 receptions,) and OROY Mike Gerardi has only seen action in 3 games this year and does not look like his MVP self thus far. The defense has been rock solid. They have 2 of the top 5 sack leaders in Ryan Waters(12), Dean Lutinski(8) and the old man, Nick Budzyn also has 6 sacks.. The defense leads the league in team sacks(29) and interceptions(15) Assassins are a solid team but as we saw last week, if you can take advantage of their bad plays, an upset is brewing. Can the Assassins keep the undefeated season in tact?  Look for Assassins to continue to gain confidence and chemistry and secure a bye in the playoffs.

Pylon at Backyard Bullies

9 AM Field 1

Pylon is coming off a loss to the Panthers. The Bullies are coming off a loss to The Undecided. Pylon’s Josh Gresh has three touchdown passes and a rushing touchdown on the year. The Bullies are looking for their first win of the year.

Prediction: Pylon 35 Bullies 14

9 AM Field 2

Panthers are coming off a win over Pylon. The Assassins are coming a victory over Busch Lattes. The Panthers’ Michael Rosario-Clark has six sacks on the season. On defense, he had nine interceptions. Pain Train is coming off a bye week after getting beat by the Heavyweights and looking for something to prove.
